Your First Visit to Star Light Dental: What to Expect, Including Saturday Appointments

Treatment room at Star Light Dental in Prestons

Walking into a new dental clinic is easier when you know exactly what is going to happen. Whether you have just moved to the area, have not seen a dentist for years, or need a clinic that is open on Saturdays, this is what a first visit to Star Light Dental involves, from the car park to the treatment plan.

1. Where to Find Us

We are inside Hoxton Park Central, Shop 7, 2 Lyn Parade, Prestons NSW 2170, next to MediPharm Medical Centre. It is the complex with Total Tools and Jaycar, just off Hoxton Park Road, opposite Officeworks and McDonald’s and a short drive from the M7.

There is on-site parking right at the door, and the clinic has disabled access, which makes it easy with a wheelchair, a walker or a pram. We see patients from Prestons, Hoxton Park, Carnes Hill, Middleton Grange, Casula, Liverpool and Edmondson Park.

2. Opening Hours, Including Saturdays

  • Monday to Friday: 9am to 6pm
  • Saturday: 10am to 3pm
  • Sunday: closed

Saturday appointments are the most popular with families and with anyone who cannot get away from work during the week, so it is worth booking them a little ahead. You can book online at any time, or call (02) 9432 2833 during opening hours.

3. What to Bring

  • photo ID
  • your health fund card, if you have one
  • your Medicare card, which is essential for children using the Child Dental Benefits Schedule
  • your concession card and the original voucher if you have an NSW dental voucher
  • a list of your medications, including blood thinners and osteoporosis medication
  • recent X-rays from your previous dentist, if you have them, so we do not need to repeat them

4. What Happens at the First Appointment

You will fill in a short medical history, and then the dentist will talk with you about any concerns before looking in your mouth. A first visit normally includes a full examination of the teeth, gums and bite, a screen of the soft tissues, X-rays only if they are needed, and a scale and clean if time allows. Allow up to an hour.

Afterwards the dentist explains what was found, shows you on the screen where that helps, and gives you a treatment plan with the costs. Nothing further is done without your agreement.

5. Who You Will See

  • Dr Maher Farag, principal dentist, with 34 years of experience and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Prosthodontics.
  • Dr Liza Mekhael, with a special focus on cosmetic and preventive care, children’s dentistry and oral surgery, and a particular gift with anxious patients.
  • Dr Miriam Mackeen, a gentle general dentist who enjoys looking after patients of all ages.

If you are nervous, tell us when you book and we will allow extra time. Our guide to dental anxiety explains how we help, and sedation is available for wisdom teeth and other complex treatment. You can meet the team on our About page.

6. Costs, Health Funds and Payment

  • We accept all health funds and claim on the spot, so you pay only the gap.
  • We are a CDBS provider for eligible children.
  • We accept NSW government dental vouchers.
  • Medipay and Afterpay payment plans are available.

If something is hurting right now, do not wait for a routine appointment. Same-day emergency appointments are available most days.
